Role Overview

As a Data Analyst, you will be responsible for developing robust data collection processes, analysing complex datasets, building insightful dashboards, and ensuring data is secure, reliable, and suitable for strategic decision‑making. Working within a multidisciplinary Agile team, you will collaborate with product managers, delivery teams, and data specialists to establish best practices for data governance, reporting, and continuous improvement. This role requires someone who can transform complex and unstructured data into meaningful insights that support business decisions and service improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Collection & Management
    • Design and implement robust data collection processes and standards.
    • Establish secure methods for collecting, storing, and maintaining organisational data.
    • Define data lifecycle management processes, including collection frequency, validation, and maintenance.
    • Ensure data quality, integrity, and governance throughout the data lifecycle.
    • Identify and utilise existing data sources where appropriate to minimise duplication.
  • Data Analysis & Insights
    • Analyse structured and unstructured datasets to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities.
    • Produce actionable insights that support strategic decision‑making.
    • Prepare data suitable for reporting, governance, and external publication.
    • Support evidence‑based recommendations through high‑quality data analysis.
  • Dashboard Development & Reporting
    • Design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards using Microsoft Power BI.
    • Develop visualisations that clearly communicate key performance indicators and business insights.
    • Monitor dashboard performance and continuously improve reporting capabilities.
    • Produce regular reports for stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Work closely with multidisciplinary Agile delivery teams to support product delivery.
    • Collaborate with wider organisational data teams to align with enterprise data standards.
    • Engage with stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and translate them into analytical solutions.
    • Present findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Promote best practices in data collection, governance, and analytics.
    • Support colleagues by sharing knowledge and improving data literacy across teams.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives through evidence‑based analysis.
    • Support the development of dashboards that measure product usage and identify opportunities for improvement.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Data Analyst or Data Scientist within complex organisations.
  • Strong experience building and maintaining Power BI dashboards.
  • Experience designing secure and scalable data collection processes.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex and unstructured datasets.
  • Experience in data governance, quality assurance, and lifecycle management.
  • Strong SQL skills for querying and analysing data.
  • Experience working with large datasets from multiple sources.
  • Ability to communicate complex analytical findings clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Experience working within Agile multidisciplinary delivery teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills.
  • Experience using data to support operational and strategic decision‑making.

  • Experience working within UK Central Government or public sector organisations.
  • Knowledge of Government Digital and Data Profession (GDaD) capability frameworks.
  • Experience working with government data standards and governance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with product analytics and service performance measurement.
  • Experience supporting continuous improvement through data‑driven insights.
  • Knowledge of data security and information governance best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Information Systems, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications in Power BI, Azure Data, or Data Analytics are desirable.

Security Requirements

BPSS Security Clearance (or higher). Ability to obtain and maintain relevant UK security clearance where required.
