Who we are

Scripture Union Scotland is a national charity, with around 120 staff and over 2,200 volunteers. Our vision is to see every child and young person of Scotland exploring the Bible and responding to the significance of Jesus. Our centres regularly host school groups participating in residential experiences, youth groups enjoying weekend breaks and a variety of SU Holidays. Making the most of the stunning opportunities that Scotland’s countryside affords, we use outdoor activities to build relationships with young people, enabling them to have fun, develop new skills and work together.

We currently have a vacancy for an Activities Instructor to be based at our Lendrick Muir Centre, near Kinross. Lendrick Muir is set in 120 acres of grounds with accommodation for 163 guests.

Purpose

Deliver high quality activities from across the range provided by Lendrick Muir, adapting content and style as appropriate to meet the different needs of our guests. Assist in the support and development of Trainee Instructors across SU Scotland centres through delivery of training modules and modelling of high quality activity sessions. Articulate a personal Christian faith appropriately and in a wide variety of settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Play an integral part of the outdoor instructional team, leading and instructing outdoor activity sessions.
  • Assisting the Activities Manager with the training of the Trainee Activities Instructors; both on-site activities and working towards NGBs.
  • Undertake regular equipment checks and maintenance.
  • Look after guests during school residentials, including some evening work.
  • Participate fully in the life and ministry of Lendrick Muir and the wider Scripture Union Scotland organisation.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking applicants who have a passion for the outdoors and a desire to share their skills and faith with children and young people in an outdoor setting. Applicants for this post should have at least 2 years’ experience of instructing activities and hold two NGB Awards (either CWI, Paddlesport Leader or MTB Level 2 Leader) and progress towards a third NGB, as well as holding a current first aid certificate. Further NGB awards would be beneficial. A full UK Driving Licence is desirable (preferably with D1 + E). For this post, it is important that you are committed to SU Scotland’s ethos, working principles and vision and are able to demonstrate this through your commitment and motivation. It is also an Occupational Requirement (Equality Act - part 1, schedule 9), that the post-holder is a committed Christian. The successful applicant will be required to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Scheme and the appointment will be subject to a satisfactory PVG Scheme Disclosure.
