Purpose of the Role The Calibration Technician plays a critical role in delivering high-quality calibration and instrumentation support within a regulated, mission-critical environment. During the initial phase, the role will focus on working closely with the principal contractor to develop documentation and support the client\βs calibration and instrumentation requirements. Once the client campus is fully operational, the role will transition into a steady-state position, responsible for day-to-day service delivery, maintaining critical test equipment, coordinating third-party calibration services, and ensuring optimal system availability and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive control and instrumentation calibration services across the entire site
- Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and client-requested calibration activities
- Diagnose and rectify faults on field instruments, planning and completing remedial works
- Provide technical expertise to support projects, commissioning, and system handover activities
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and A3 investigations, producing clear and structured reports
- Initiate and receive Permits to Work in line with site procedures and safety requirements
- Identify spare parts requirements, raise orders, and manage stock levels effectively
- Coordinate the dispatch and return of test equipment to third-party calibration suppliers in line with CMMS schedules
- Ensure all work orders are completed within contractual performance metrics and timescales
- Work closely with the Systems Manager and site management team to support operational objectives
- Provide cross-account and cross-team support when required
Good general education with strong written and spoken English
Procedures, Planning & Maintenance
- Develop, implement, and maintain site calibration procedures and maintenance strategies
- Define and manage equipment tolerances for plant and process systems
- Identify test equipment requirements and suitable workspace provisions for calibration activities
- Maximise plant and user equipment availability through effective planned maintenance
Asset, Spares & Supplier Management
- Identify spare parts requirements, raise orders, and manage stock levels effectively
- Coordinate the dispatch and return of test equipment to third-party calibration suppliers in line with CMMS schedules
- Ensure all work orders are completed within contractual performance metrics and timescales
Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with the Systems Manager and site management team to support operational objectives
- Provide cross-account and cross-team support when required
Good general education with strong written and spoken English
Training & Qualifications
- Completed Formal Apprenticeship in Calibration and Instrumentation
- HNC/HND (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline
- cGXP Training (current Good X Practice β e.g. manufacturing or laboratory environments)
Experience (Essential)
- Minimum 3 years\β experience in calibration maintenance within a regulated industry (e.g. pharmaceutical, food processing)
- Demonstrated experience in writing and maintaining calibration procedures
Skills & Aptitudes
- Basic mathematical competency
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- High level of IT literacy, including experience with CMMS systems
- Structured, methodical approach to fault-finding and documentation
