The Data Centre HVAP Technician will oversee and supervise both planned and reactive maintenance activities, working closely with the Building Engineering Supervisor and Engineering Shift Leader. This role is responsible for ensuring all maintenance works are carried out in full compliance with site policies, procedures, and relevant health and safety legislation. As an Authorised Person (HVAP), the post holder will ensure all safety documentation and permits are completed to the highest standard, in line with company policies and safe systems of work. The role reports directly to the Engineering Shift Leader and supports shift teams to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and within agreed timescales. This is a continental shift role suited to an experienced HVAP professional.
Responsibilities
- Carry out routine maintenance on building plant, equipment, and systems, ensuring all works meet or exceed agreed service level agreements (SLAs).
- Respond to Building Management System (BMS) alarms and carry out emergency repairs as required.
- Manage the Permit to Work system, ensuring appropriate controls and authorisations are in place.
- Produce and utilise switching schedules, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs) in line with company policies and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW).
- Maintain evaporative cooling and domestic water systems in compliance with L8 regulations.
- Ensure availability of appropriate spare parts for maintenance activities.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records via REALM task sheets.
- Prepare Method Statements and Risk Assessments to support safe working practices.
- Supervise engineering subcontractors, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and site processes.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with CBRE and client representatives.
- Ensure a safe working environment in line with company and client health and safety policies.
- Represent CBRE professionally at all times, delivering high standards of customer service.
- Maintain and develop professional and technical competence through continuous personal development.
- Ensure work packs contain all required documentation and review subcontractor RAMS.
- Ensure all training and personal development requirements remain current.
- Support incident management during unplanned events or site faults.
- Undertake all HVAP responsibilities applicable to the role.
HV Authorisation & Qualifications
- Current Wiring Regulations certification
- Level 3 NVQ (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
- Emergency First Aid at Work qualification
- Proven experience managing incidents or faults in a business‑critical environment
- Demonstrable experience in a similar role within a comparable organisation
- Strong understanding of health and safety legislation related to maintenance activities
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Numerate and literate with strong attention to detail
- High standards of diligence and commitment to safe working practices
- Self‑motivated with strong personal integrity
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Well organised and capable of working under pressure
- Professional, courteous, and presentable, with regular client interaction
- Ability to ascend and descend vertical access equipment
