Job Description
Head of Risk, Compliance & Procurement
£50k – £80k
Hybrid, Tangmere, West Sussex
Are you a commercially astute professional with a sharp understanding of legal and operational risk with a passion for operational excellence? Do you thrive in a fast-moving environment where your work genuinely makes an impact? If so, we want to hear from you.
About Us
We are the clear market leader in our sector and one of the fastest-growing car buying companies in the world. In the UK we generate over 100,000 customer enquiries each month and book in tens of thousands of vehicles over the same period through our high-traffic websites and nationwide operations. We have now launched across the United States, with multiple states already live and an ambitious plan to expand nationwide.
Our rapid expansion and success have been driven by outstanding people, a strong culture, and our ability to lean into the advantages of cutting-edge technology. We are not a speculative startup. We have been established for over 15 years, are highly profitable, and have achieved this scale without external funding. That gives us both security and momentum – and yet, despite our size, we have kept the excitement, energy and ambition of a startup. Our team is collaborative, ambitious and relentlessly driven to be the best and most exciting place to work in our sector.
Our aim is bold: to build a billion-dollar valuation within the next five years. Along the way, we want our growth to make a positive difference to others. We have already donated over £1 million to various charities, and as we scale, so too will our donations.
We offer a great base salary but the real game changer is what comes over the longer term. Because of the huge opportunity for growth in the US, we intend to explore opportunities to provide equity in the business for those who make an exceptional impact in driving this expansion. We want the people who help us achieve our most ambitious goals to share directly in the value they create. This can result in genuinely life-changing benefits as the company continues its growth journey.
We are looking for a Head of Risk, Compliance & Procurement to take full ownership of the compliance, legal, and safeguarding functions across our dynamic, multi-faceted business, while also leading and supporting cross-departmental and project management initiatives that drive operational improvements and business efficiency. This is a rare opportunity to step into a high-responsibility role that spans both the UK and US markets, from safeguarding investigations and GDPR oversight to supplier contracts and US title verification.
Responsibilities:
As the key guardian of our company’s risk and compliance landscape, you’ll be responsible for:
Risk & Compliance Ownership
• Leading investigations into stolen vehicles and insurance disputes
• Ensuring GDPR and data compliance across operations
• Handling safeguarding concerns and liaising with police, insurers, and regulators
Legal Oversight (UK & US)
• Reviewing and managing contracts, vehicle purchase agreements, and internal legal documents
• Maintaining legal separation across entities to minimise liability and tax crossover
• Ensuring US entity compliance with state-specific requirements
• Auditing all US legal docs to ensure clear separation, responsibilities, and protection
Property Management
Managing Business Insurance
• Property operations
• Overseeing PAT testing
Vehicle Title Verification (USA)
• Creating workflows for verifying ownership, identifying title fraud, and collecting the right documents
• Ensuring every purchase is backed by bulletproof verification
Payments & Customer Convenience
• Innovating beyond traditional bank transfers to enhance seller convenience
• Testing new payment methods like PayPal or card links
• Reducing cancellations and friction in the transaction process
CRM & Systems Revamp
• Replacing outdated CRM tools with efficient, structured solutions
• Improving tracking, handover, and relationship management across teams
Operator’s Licence Oversight
• Ensuring full self-sufficiency and long-term compliance with our company operator’s licence
Insider Risk & IP Protection
• Managing access to sensitive data and pricing tools
• Monitoring systems for suspicious activity and enforcing strong encryption policies
Procurement & Supplier Management
• Negotiating the best value from our suppliers
• Regularly reviewing service providers and ensuring operational efficiency
What We’re Looking For:
• Solid experience in risk, compliance, legal or procurement roles
• Understanding of both UK and US legal and operational landscapes
• Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills
• Experience handling legal documentation, safeguarding concerns, and data protection
• Confidence dealing with stakeholders at all levels—from suppliers to regulators
• A methodical, strategic mindset with an eye for both detail and big-picture risk
Why Join Us?
This is not a checkbox role. It’s a hands-on senior position where your judgment and insight will directly influence the direction of the business. You'll be joining a forward-thinking team that values initiative, accountability, and continuous improvement.
