About the role

We are looking for dedicated and experienced Residential Support Workers to join a team supporting young people in the Basildonarea.

The young people are aged 1417, although placements can be offered from age 11. The services are classed as EBD (Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties) settings, supporting young people who may present with challenging behaviours.

You will always work as part of a 2:1 staffing ratio, meaning you will never be working alone.

Shift patterns

  • Day shifts: 8am8pm
  • Night shifts: 8pm8am
  • You must be flexible to work both days and nights. Preferences will be considered wherever possible, but flexibility is essential.
  • 34 shifts per week required.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality care and support to children and young people in a residential setting.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with young people.
  • Support young people with their emotional, social and behavioural needs.
  • Encourage positive routines, independence and engagement with education.
  • Support young people with day-to-day activities and development.
  • Follow individual care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support strategies.
  • Respond appropriately to challenging behaviours using approved de-escalation and restraint techniques.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive and nurturing environment.
  • Complete accurate records and communicate effectively with colleagues and management.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a 2:1 support team.

Training & development

The organisation places a strong emphasis on investing in its staff.

Restraint training is provided and funded by the organisation. If you do not already hold appropriate restraint training, you will be required to complete it.

There is also the opportunity to undertake a Level 3 Residential Childcare qualification. This can provide excellent opportunities for career progression within the organisation.

Requirements

  • Level 3 Health & Social Care qualification essential.
  • Previous experience working with children or young people in residential care, EBD, SEN, education, youth work or a similar environment is highly desirable. xgikmsk
