We are seeking an experienced and motivated Garden Centre Manager to lead the daily operations of a busy and rapidly growing garden centre in South East Essex. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the retail operation, managing a diverse team, and ensuring the centre delivers an exceptional customer experience. Working in conjunction with, and supporting the owner, the Garden Centre Manager will play a key role in the continued growth and diversification of the centre. The manager will be responsible for developing staff and delivering a vibrant retail environment that includes seasonal promotions, community engagement, and a range of events throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities
- Retail Operations
- Oversee the day-to-day running of the garden centre to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
- Maintain high standards of merchandising, product presentation, and store layout.
- Monitor stock levels and coordinate ordering, replenishment, and supplier relationships.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and operational procedures.
- Manage opening and closing procedures and general site operations.
- Staff Management & Leadership
- Lead, motivate, and manage the garden centre team across all departments.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and training of staff.
- Develop staff skills and performance through coaching and regular feedback.
- Manage staff rotas to ensure appropriate coverage during busy periods and events.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and customer-focused team culture.
- Customer Experience
- Ensure customers receive outstanding service at all times.
- Actively engage with customers and handle enquiries, feedback, and complaints professionally.
- Maintain a welcoming and well-organised retail environment.
- Events & Promotions
- Plan and coordinate a calendar of events including seasonal promotions, workshops, and community activities.
- Work with suppliers and partners to deliver engaging in-store events.
- Ensure events are well organised, properly staffed, and commercially successful.

- Monitor sales performance and work towards achieving revenue targets.
- Identify opportunities to increase sales and improve the retail offering.
- Support the development and execution of growth strategies for the centre.
- Provide regular operational and performance updates to senior management.
