You will be involved in the procurement and cost and commercial management of contracts to support the expansion of our portfolio of HVDC interlink projects as we head towards our 2030 goals and beyond. This will enable electricity, created by new and existing onshore and offshore wind development, to be efficiently moved closer to where it is needed by the consumer, supporting the modern electrified society.
What you will be doing:
- You will join an expanding procurement team working within a cross-company, matrix organisation with our partners at National Grid.
- The procurement team has the significant responsibility for the procurement of approximately £10 billion worth of investment projects across the UK Energy network over the next 5 years.
- The projects will primarily support the transmission of renewable energy generated offshore onto the UK Grid network.
- You will support the procurement requirements for the construction phase of the £4 billion Eastern Green Link 1 project.
- Your role will also support future project requirements such as Eastern Green Link 4 and new interlink projects on the West Coast of the UK.
- You will take a lead role in identifying strategic opportunities to leverage common requirements across projects.
- You will participate in the definition of proposed strategies and lead in the management of the procurement process through to Contract Award.
- You will lead and support the commercial aspects of contract negotiations, managing commercial and contractual activities both pre-contract and post-contract.
- You will support the Category Manager in the delivery of the main Converter contracts for all current and future interlink projects.
- The role includes significant stakeholder management activity including the management of internal and external relationships, contractor engagement, ongoing gathering of intelligence, benchmarking and negotiation of high value complex contracts.
What you will bring:
- Experience in energy procurement and/or construction contracts in the UK.
- Familiarity with evaluating supplier bids, cost and commercial contract management and negotiations.
- Experience of EPC type contracts and familiarity with FIDIC and/or NEC3 or 4 engineering and construction contracts.
- Full chartership status with a relevant professional body such as the RICS or CIPS is desirable.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and confidence in using Microsoft Excel to build cost models.
