We are currently looking to recruit a Fitter to construct, maintain and repair the electrical distribution network. This is an important role within the district, where you’ll provide key skills and knowledge to ready the network for an electric future and to help meet the challenge of Net Zero across more than 100,000km of network and 30,000 substations, benefiting more than 3.5m homes and businesses across Scotland, England, and Wales.
All training, tools and PPE will be provided when working towards Company Authorisation and once Authorised. The opportunity of a standby position could be made available when fully trained and authorised to work on the network, depending on business requirements.
What You’ll Be Doing- Ensure all site works are carried out safely, following company policy and safety regulations.
- Act as the designated safety lead during works attended.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on circuit breakers, batteries, and transformers within substations or workshop environments.
- Drain and replenish oils, including handling residual carbon deposits in a controlled manner.
- Follow assigned work procedures and adhere to health and safety protocols at all times.
- Conduct tasks at height, utilizing collective safety measures (e.g., guard rails) and personal protective equipment (e.g., safety harnesses, fall arrest systems) when required.
- Assess environmental factors, ground conditions, and weather conditions to determine the safest work methods.
- Plan and execute tasks efficiently, working independently or as part of a collaborative team.
- Maintain a proactive and safety-conscious approach, ensuring high operational standards.
- Deliver exceptional service, supporting essential operations 24/7/365 to benefit local communities.
- Exhibit strong attention to detail, alongside excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstratable experience and a strong understanding of the network.
- Previous experience in a utilities business is desirable but not essential.
- Sound knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation to ensure compliance and safe working practices.
- Excellent communication skills to engage effectively with colleagues and customers as a professional on-site representative of the company.
- Minimum Requirements: City & Guilds or NVQ equivalent, and/or equivalent experience. Current or previous employment as an Electrical/Mechanical Fitter. Valid driving licence.
