An exciting opportunity has become available for the Water Quality Regulation Manager Role within the Environmental Planning and Assurance (EPA) Directorate of Scottish Water.

The primary objective of this role is to lead all Public Health and Water Quality Regulation activities across Scottish Water to protect public health and ensure Scottish Water maintains a strong and trusted relationship with the DWQR, Health Protection Scotland, Regional Health Boards and Local Authority Environmental Health teams.

The key outcome of the role is to maintain customers confidence in the quality of drinking water supplied by Scottish Water and support a flourishing Scotland.

What you’ll do

In this role, you will lead efforts to maintain and enhance a transparent and trusted relationship with the DWQR, Health Boards and Local Authorities. You will ensure all requirements of the Drinking Water Quality Regulation are met and lead on assurance and reporting to Scottish Water’s Board, and external stakeholders.

You will lead a team of Public Health professionals,working with our Scientific teams, to monitorwater quality and provide advice to operational teams, capital delivery teams and developers to protect public health 24 hours a day.

You will support incident management teams, providing public health and regulatory adviceand act as the key liaison between Scottish Water and other agencies.

Your team will lead the investigation and reporting of drinking water quality events and incidents, identification and embedment of learning, and ensure all actions identified are delivered.

You will maintain customers trust in the public water supply through the provision of advice, responses to contacts and complaints and providing responses to media and stakeholder questions.

You will lead Scottish Waters engagement on the development of new or revised drinking water quality legislation and regulations with DWQR and the Scottish Government and provide regulatory guidance to operational, planning and project teams across Scottish Water and the supply chain.

You will lead on the assurance and development of Scottish Waters drinking water quality management systems, including DOMS, TOMS and Hygiene Code of Practice and engage with other water companies and Water UK forums and academia on drinking water quality regulations and policy matters.

Collaboration is key, so you will lead your team of Technical Team Managers, Public Health Scientists and Water Regulation Advisors to work closely with all teams across Scottish Water (operations, planning, capital delivery & digital) and its supply chain to deliver defined drinking water quality outcomes for customers.

Finally, you\’ll manage and deliver the team’s activities and budget effectivelyseekingto improve productivity year on year.

What you’ll need

In this role, you\’ll need the ability to lead and develop people, driving continual improvement across teams. You\’ll work well with peers and stakeholders, collaborating in a one-team approach to deliver results for customers. You\’ll build credibility and trust, influencing and engaging a diverse group of stakeholders.

You’ll inspire and motivate others through a positive attitude and clear communication. As a problem solver, you\’ll evaluate evidence, champion innovation, and deliver results by managing processes and priorities effectively. A strong track record in health and safety management within teams is essential.

You’llhave aprofessional accreditation in water quality related Scientific or Engineering Institution to demonstrate credibility with DWQR and Health Boards. A deep understanding of drinking water regulation, quality parameters and public health isrequired.

You will require to work out of hours to support operational incidents.

A valid UK Driver’s Licence and the flexibility to travel, along with the ability to work in a hybrid setting, are also required.

The not-so-small print

This role will be at M2 Level and include a standby allowance. The salary for this role starts from £73,816.00 with opportunities for further review based on performance.
