Multiskilled Craftsperson – Electrical role at Scottish Water
Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland. We focus on delivering clean water to taps and managing wastewater. We’re looking for an E&M Multiskilled craftsperson with an Electrical bias to join our Engineering and Maintenance team in the Glasgow/Dumbarton area to help keep operational sites running smoothly.
This team installs, maintains and repairs the critical infrastructure that delivers 1 billion litres of drinking water and removes 940 million litres of waste water daily.
What You’ll Do
- Work with the broader E&M team to deliver a proactive service ensuring plant and equipment at Water and Waste Water sites are safe and working effectively.
- Apply core Electrical skills and mechanical knowledge to fault find, diagnose and solve technical issues in a time-sensitive environment, often in confined spaces.
- Maintain a range of equipment including 3-phase and single-phase motors, motor starters, generators, actuators, level monitoring equipment, variable speed drives, instrumentation, process controller calibration, and automation equipment resets.
- Perform general mechanical maintenance on pumps, valves, gearboxes, pipe fitting and assist other craftspersons on multi-person tasks.
- Prioritize safety, conduct risk assessments, select appropriate equipment, maintain essential training, and follow safe working practices.
- Co-operate with the office support team to plan and coordinate regional resources, delivering responsive, cost-efficient incident handling (reactive or planned) while seeking continual improvements.
What You’ll Need
- Full apprenticeship completed with an HNC or NC in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Field-based role requiring lone work; must hold a full GB-issued Driving Licence (DVLA).
- Willingness to work on a standby rota with additional standby retainer.
- Ability to communicate with internal and external customers about on-site work, provide progress updates, and deliver a high level of service.
- Comfort using computer systems and online learning modules to get up to speed.
- Strong commitment to Health & Safety for self, colleagues and the public.
