Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland. At Scottish Water, we look after Scotland's most precious natural resource. From source to tap, we are guarding Scotland’s reputation for refreshingly pure water and caring for our environment at the same time. We are looking for a Multifunctional Water Operative covering Islay and Jura. You’ll be on the front lines of making sure Scotland’s water is totally, dependably pure.

What you’ll do:

  • You’ll join an experienced team that really knows its water & waste, helping to monitor and maintain the quality of water at our treatment works and pumping stations.
  • As a multifunctional Water Operative, you’ll also be supporting our communities by looking after our network infrastructure – all while keeping the public safe and informed.
  • You’ll handle risk assessments and keep a close eye on health and safety protocols.
  • As part of the team, you’ll take your turn on the standby 1:5 rota for out-of-hours cover.

What you’ll bring:

  • You’ll need to be self-motivated, but still eager to contribute to your team’s goals.
  • Basic IT skills are a must, as you’ll be using digital equipment and apps throughout the day.
  • You’ll need report writing skills too – enough to get your point across clearly, quickly, and accurately.
  • A full driving licence is non-negotiable, as you’ll need to travel around Islay and Jura.

The not-so-small print:

This role will be a Grade 4. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £31,640. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £36,460. Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. These checks are conducted on our behalf by a third party. Don’t worry - we’ll ask your permission before starting these checks.
