Sample Point Technician in London

We’re looking for a Sampling Point Technician to join our Sampling team in the Falkirk and Stirling area. We might also consider candidates who are based in Dundee, where Fife, Stirling, and Forth Valley may be covered.

What you’ll do:

• Our Water Sampling team travels to sites throughout Scotland collecting, processing, and delivering samples to protect public health and the environment.
• As a Sampling Point Technician, you’ll ensure the sampling points our Sampling Officers need to access are safe and ready to use.
• You’ll carry out routine and emergency maintenance on the sampling points, including repairing or replacing taps and pipework, strimming the grass, cutting back overhanging branches, or cleaning the sampling kiosks.
• Health and safety will be your priority.
• You’ll often be working alone, but your contribution to the team’s targets will be significant.
• Standby will also be required, which consists of taking clean water samples, recording the data, and transporting it to the labs. This is expected to be a 1 in 5 rota, with a retainer paid, and overtime paid in addition for any call-outs during that week.

What you’ll need:

• You’ll have hands-on maintenance experience, ideally with a plumbing background, and you’re confident working solo.
• You should be comfortable with technology, whether it’s computer systems or smartphone apps.
• Communication is key; you’ll be working with colleagues and customers, so you’ll need to convey your points clearly.
• If you enjoy keeping a to-do list and managing your calendar, you’ll fit right in.
• Most days, you’ll work to a set schedule, but you’ll need to be flexible for urgent repairs and resampling.
• A full, clean driving licence is essential as you’ll spend a lot of time in one of our branded vans.

Looking out for you:

• This is a full-time (35 hours per week) role with some weekend working and standby requirements, with a retainer paid in addition to the basic salary, plus overtime for standby call-outs.
• You’ll receive 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays), with the option to buy five more if needed.

The not-so-small print:

• This role will be a Grade 2. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll start with a salary of £28,480, with performance-driven pay progression allowing you to move through the range to a maximum of £31,260.
