From source to tap, we are guarding Scotland’s reputation for refreshingly pure water, and caring for our environment at the same time. Want to join us? We are looking for a Multifunctional Water Operative covering Islay and Jura. You’ll be on the front lines of making sure Scotland’s water is totally, dependably pure.

What you’ll do

  • You’ll join an experienced team that really knows its water & waste, helping to monitor and maintain the quality of water at our treatment works and pumping stations.
  • As a multifunctional Water Operative you’ll also be supporting our communities by looking after our network infrastructure – all while keeping the public safe and informed.
  • You’ll also handle risk assessments and keep a close eye on health and safety protocols.
  • As part of the team, you’ll take your turn on the standby 1:5 rota for out-of-hours cover.

What you’ll bring

  • You’ll spend a fair amount of time working alone, so you’ll need to be self-motivated, but still eager to contribute to your team’s goals.
  • Basic IT skills are a must, as you’ll be using digital equipment and apps throughout the day.
  • You’ll need report writing skills too – nothing fancy, but enough to get your point across clearly, quickly, and accurately.
  • A full, driving licence is non-negotiable, as you’ll need to travel around Islay and Jura.

The not-so-small print

This role will be a Grade 4. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £31,640. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £36,460. Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. These checks are conducted on our behalf by a third party. Don’t worry - we’ll ask your permission before starting these checks.
