Who are Scottish Water Horizons
SWH are a part of Scottish Water and play a key role in helping housing developers, and commercial property developers ensure that water and wastewater infrastructure has the capability to meet Scottish Water’s requirements. Our varied business engagements include developer projects, development centres, low carbon energy projects, low carbon heat projects, and waste management to name but a few.
What you’ll do
- You will keep a watchful eye on project budgets, costs and income and working closely with the project manager will be responsible for monthly reporting.
- Your expertise will shine as you assist project managers commercially, with negotiations, analysing and giving information on contract terms.
- You will have a good understanding of NEC (New Engineering Contracts) forms of contracts.
- You will be a key player in managing and mitigating risks, providing support to both Commercial and Project Management Teams.
- Your commitment extends to learning and assessing in implementing strategic commercial procedures and policies, fostering strong relationships with project delivery teams, internal partners, and the supply chain.
- With an eye for detail, you’ll meticulously prepare contract documents, ensuring they align with SW and SWH procedures before project commencement.
- As a numerate professional with excellent communication skills, you’ll administer commercial and contractual aspects, including change control, monthly applications, and accruals.
- Your high level of computer literacy, motivation, and organizational skills will be put to the test, with proficiency in Microsoft applications and the ability to adapt to bespoke costing/reporting systems.
- You will be part of a relatively small, but very skilled and experienced commercial team who will be there to support, especially initially when learning the business processes.
What you’ll need
- You’ll have a Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or Project Management qualification (or similar).
- If you do not have already, we would require you to be working towards your RICS/ CICES qualification.
- Whether working independently or collaboratively, you’ll excel, showcasing strong commercial and contracting awareness gained from your valuable experience on both contractor and client-side projects.
- Your ability to manage time effectively will align seamlessly with your business and customer-focused awareness, ensuring successful project outcomes.

The not-so-small print
This role will be located at our main Scottish Water Horizons head office at Scottish Water “The Bridge” in Stepps. It will involve a mixture of home, in the office / other SW offices and on site working. This role will be a Grade 6. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a salary between £36,410-£46,990, depending on your skills and experience.

We operate Balanced Hybrid working at Scottish Water and we encourage people to work half their time in a Scottish Water location.
