Electrical and Mechanical Field Automation Specialist

As a Field Automation Specialist at Scottish Water, you’ll be one of the go-to people keeping our telemetry systems running smoothly — the vital tech that keeps everything connected, efficient, and on track. You’ll work closely with teams across the business to understand what’s needed and set up systems that deliver. From installing outstations to fine-tuning settings, you’ll ensure everything’s ticking along just right — and troubleshoot when it’s not. You’ll handle software updates and hardware upgrades with minimal fuss, keeping everything current and our software library organized and up to date. Out in the field, you’ll look after our critical instrumentation — calibrating, maintaining, and repairing equipment that helps us monitor processes and collect accurate data. You’ll also produce reports on data quality, calibration, and maintenance, and identify ways to improve telemetry data and support your E&M colleagues with field automation issues.

What you’ll need:

• You’ve completed a full apprenticeship and hold an HNC or NC in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or have gained similar experience.
• You understand systems, processes, and troubleshooting telemetry issues.
• Hands-on experience with calibrating instrumentation is essential.
• Database skills? No problem. You can find what you need and identify important data.
• You’re also proficient with Microsoft Office, including table formatting.
• You excel at solving problems, making decisions quickly, and staying calm in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
• Clear and confident communication skills are a must.
• A full UK driving license is essential.

Nice-to-haves include:

• Experience with water and wastewater processes.
• 17th/18th Edition electrical training.

This full-time role (35 hours/week) includes some standby requirements but offers 38 days of holiday annually (including public holidays), with the option to buy five more. The not-so-small print:

This is a Grade 7 role. The starting salary for new Scottish Water employees is £41,000, with performance-based progression up to £51,970. Offers are conditional upon pre-employment screening, including references, criminal record, and license checks, conducted by a third party with your prior permission.
