Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland. At Scottish Water, we look after Scotland's most precious natural resource. From source to tap, we’re guarding Scotland’s reputation for refreshingly pure water and caring for our environment at the same time. We’re looking for a Part Time Weekend Courier to join our Water Sampling team, who keep a close eye on the water quality in Perth and the surrounding areas.
Our Scientific Services team play a critical role in protecting public and environmental health in Scotland. They sample, test and analyse water and waste water samples from all over Scotland every day. It’s important that samples get to our labs quickly, and we rely on Couriers to make that happen. Our Couriers pick up samples from various Scottish Water depots and other businesses and deliver them to Scottish Water’s laboratories in Edinburgh or Inverness for analysis. Samples must be carefully handled and accurately logged and labelled, so that we can track exactly where they came from and when the samples were taken. Their transportation is carried out following clear procedures, and records are carefully kept.
Together, we’ll tackle environmental challenges head-on, driving toward our Beyond Net Zero ambition while proudly upholding our ISO 14001 certification.
What you’ll bring:
- You’ll need a full, clean driving licence.
- You’ll work to a schedule but will flex for occasional logistical challenges or reactive jobs, such as urgent resampling.
- You’ll need to be self-motivated but still eager to contribute to your team’s goals.
- Basic IT skills are a must, as you’ll be using digital equipment and apps throughout the day.
- You’ll ideally have experience of keeping accurate records.
- You’ll take Health and Safety seriously and not take shortcuts or risks.
Looking out for you:
This role is for a weekend worker, with hours scheduled across both Saturday and Sunday each week. The position requires working 7 hours per day, with shifts arranged within the core hours of 8:00am to 8:00pm. We have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. We embrace flexible working. For your future, there’s our pension and life assurance. You will participate in a company bonus scheme and have access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
The not-so-small print:
This role will be a Grade 2. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £28,480 (Pro Rata). Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £31,260 (Pro Rata). Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. These checks are conducted on our behalf by a third party.
If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on Wednesday 12th August 2026.
A few final things worth knowing… Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out! Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions. We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.
As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.
