E&M Specialist - High Voltage in Dartford

Role Overview

We’re looking for a high voltage specialist to take ownership of our high voltage maintenance program. This is a key role where you will plan and coordinate maintenance activities, work closely with contractors and stakeholders, and ensure issues are resolved quickly and effectively. You’ll play a vital part in bringing our HV substations up to a great standard by supporting capital investment initiatives, managing both planned and reactive tasks, and providing cross‑functional support for our planned, essential and statutory maintenance programs. This will help us maintain compliance and reliability across our assets and high voltage network. You will also contribute to fault finding, process improvement, and technical reporting ensuring best practice and compliance with statutory requirements.

What you'll do

This role involves planning and scheduling high‑voltage (HV) maintenance activities across the network, ensuring that both planned and reactive maintenance tasks are delivered effectively and efficiently. It requires close liaison with contractors, internal teams, and key stakeholders to support the smooth delivery of maintenance programmes while maintaining compliance with safety standards, operational procedures, and Electricity at Work Regulations. Responsibilities include diagnosing and resolving issues that arise during maintenance works, identifying and managing follow‑on activities to ensure timely completion, and maintaining accurate records and documentation for all HV maintenance activities. The role also supports the delivery of essential, statutory, and planned maintenance programmes, works closely with procurement and standards teams to ensure best practice and minimum standards are achieved, and carries out safety and quality audits across the HV supply chain and partner organisations.

What you'll need

The ideal candidate will be safety conscious, with a strong commitment to compliance and maintaining high standards of health and safety. They will possess excellent stakeholder management skills, enabling them to build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, contractors, and external partners. Strong problem‑solving and diagnostic abilities are essential for identifying and resolving technical issues, alongside excellent organisational skills with the ability to plan, prioritise, and manage workloads effectively. The role requires clear and confident communication skills, as well as a strong understanding of safe isolation, lock‑off, proving dead, and permit‑to‑work processes. Candidates should hold an HNC in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification. Desirable experience and qualifications include Authorised Person (AP) or Senior Authorised Person (SAP) status, experience working within water or utility environments, and proficiency in using systems such as Salesforce and Maximo. A good understanding of health and safety regulations relating to high‑voltage operations is also beneficial, together with strong working knowledge of the 18th Edition (BS 7671) Wiring Regulations. Holding the City & Guilds 6037 qualification in High Voltage Systems Operations would be advantageous.

The not‑so‑small print

This role will be a Grade 7. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £45,699. Performance‑driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £56,669.
