We’re looking for a driven and empowering Senior Manager – Internal Sales and Sales Support to lead our SME Retention, SME Acquisition and Sales Support Teams. In this high-impact role, you’ll create a culture of excellence across our internal sales function, ensuring we retain and grow our SME customer base while delivering compliant, efficient and high-quality contracting processes.
You’ll work closely with the SME Retention and Acquisition Team, the Commercial Sales Lead, and the wider leadership group to develop and deliver effective retention and acquisition strategies. This includes reducing churn through proactive and point-of-exit retention activity, growing market share through outbound acquisition, and ensuring accurate forecasting and performance reporting.
Alongside this, you will partner with the Sales Support Team Contracts Manager to ensure that all contracts – both retention and acquisition – are produced accurately, on time and in line with market codes, internal processes and business policies.
You’ll be instrumental in building capability across the teams, identifying development needs, coaching team members and managers, and embedding a culture of continuous improvement. Through strong leadership and commercial insight, you will drive operational and commercial excellence and ensure all team members contribute to the delivery of key KPIs.
In this role, you will act as a role model for Business Stream’s values and behaviours – embracing change, championing performance, and supporting high levels of team engagement. You will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with data protection, information security, and health and safety policies across your area.
About you
You’ll be an experienced and inspiring leader with a strong track record of managing outbound customer save, retention or telesales teams – ideally in the utilities sector or other high-volume consumer markets. You’re comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and consistently delivering against stretching daily, weekly and monthly sales targets.
You’ll bring strong commercial awareness, excellent communication skills and the confidence to influence and persuade at all levels. You can adapt your style to suit different audiences, manage complex customer queries, and handle escalation calls with professionalism and composure.
Your experience in building customer relationships (both inbound and outbound), combined with your ability to understand and utilise financial and customer data, allows you to build cost-effective campaigns and high-impact sales approaches. You are analytically minded with strong problem-solving skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to produce accurate, insightful reports.
You are someone who thrives on continuous improvement, capable of identifying opportunities to enhance team performance, customer experience and commercial outcomes. You’re highly organised, able to prioritise effectively, and motivated by success – both your own and that of your team.
You’ll also bring:
- Proven experience leading, coaching and developing teams
- Strong influencing skills and the ability to build relationships quickly
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Confidence working with Excel, CRM systems and (ideally) data warehouse tools such as Power BI
- The ability to manage pressurised situations and resolve conflicts professionally
- A proactive mindset with a genuine passion for helping customers and identifying business opportunities
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to deliver against deadlines and KPIs
- Experience using Dynamics 365 CRM
- Knowledge of the water industry
What’s in it for you?
You’ll be a key team player in one of the largest water retailers in the UK, with lots of benefits and the chance to grow your career. Salary up to £55,000 plus bonus up to 20% 31 days annual leave and six bank holidays Monday to Friday based in our office within Edinburgh Park. Subsidised staff restaurant and free gym membership. Salary sacrifice schemes including electric vehicles and cycle to work.
