Role Purpose

The Volunteer Head Coach will play a key role in improving athlete performance within a safe, inclusive and positive environment. Working closely with club members, the post holder will help deliver a well-organised, effective and progressive coaching programme for athletes of all abilities.

Main Functions & Duties

  • Deliver high-quality coaching programmes tailored to athletes across all ability levels.
  • Support athletes in reaching their full potential, with pathways towards district, national and international standards.
  • Lead, coordinate, and support the coaching team, including assistant coaches and poolside helpers.
  • Develop and implement clear, progressive pathways for both athletes and coaches.
  • Provide regular, constructive feedback on athlete development and progression.
  • Support wider club development initiatives and objectives.
  • Promote and uphold club policies, including well-being and protection, fair play and equality.
  • Liaise with the club management committee to ensure appropriate competitive opportunities.
  • Attend and actively contribute to relevant club meetings.

Requirements

  • PVG Scheme Membership.
  • Completion of a self-declaration form.
  • Current membership with Scottish Swimming.
  • Willingness to attend relevant training.
  • Commitment to sign and adhere to the Coach’s Code of Conduct.

Training & Support

  • Scottish Swimming UKCC Level 2 / SSCQ qualification (minimum) or equivalent.
  • Ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Child Wellbeing & Protection in Sport certification (renewable every 3 years).

Time Commitment

This will vary depending on the needs of the club and competition schedule.

Additional Information

This is a voluntary (unpaid) position. However, it offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on athlete development and contribute to a supportive and ambitious club environment.
