Warrender Baths Club is Scotland’s leading and most successful Age Group and Youth swimming programme. The Club seeks a highly motivated, creative coach to deliver and oversee the coaching programme for the National Girls Squad and to help the athletes achieve their full potential in a safe and positive environment. Working alongside the Head Coach and Lead Coaches of the National Boys squad and National Performance squad, you will be part of a cohesive team providing a well-organised, appropriate and effective National squad training programme. The role presents an excellent opportunity to work with youth swimmers aiming to achieve at National level. Mentoring by the Club’s Head Coach will enable the successful candidate to further their own development and experience. The Club is coach-driven and has a committed and active Management Committee, assisting with administration and allowing our coaches to concentrate on coaching. Induction and training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Working with the Head Coach to plan and deliver the National Girls squad programme, including setting and implementing the season training plan, with standards of performance and expectations for the squad.
- Assisting the athletes to reach their full potential with the objective of achieving national level and ensuring a progressive squad culture is in place which will maximise individual potential within an enjoyable and rewarding team environment.
- Providing individual swimmer evaluation, including working with swimmers on individual goal-setting.
- Reporting to the Head Coach.
- Developing a positive working relationship with the group and their parents, ensuring effective communication.
- Working positively with other members of the coaching team to build a cohesive environment.
- Attending competitions and training camps as required and agreed with the Head Coach.
- Providing lifeguarding services at specific training sessions.
Requirements
- Level 2 UKCC Coaching Swimming qualification or equivalent and able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles of long-term athlete development.
- Highly motivated, with experience of successful coaching at Youth/National level, with a commitment and drive to deliver success at national level competitions.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a coaching and administration team and in partnership with other coaches.
- Complete an enhanced Disclosure check (PVG), including self-declaration form and 2 satisfactory references.
- Be a member of Scottish Swimming.
- Attend appropriate training.
- Sign and adhere to the Coach’s Code of Conduct and comply with Club and Scottish Swimming policies, procedures and guidelines, including the Scottish Swimming Wellbeing and Protection Policy.
- Abide by and promote sound ethics and club policies, child protection, fair play and equal opportunities to all members.
- Undertake a National Rescue Award lifeguarding qualification (or equivalent).
- Complete Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport qualification.
Skills and Attributes
- A sound understanding of writing and delivering training plans.
- Excellent coaching skills, including communication skills and technical knowledge.
- Skilled at motivating and establishing rapport with competitive swimmers.
- Ability to work flexible hours to include early morning, evening and weekend training sessions as well as competitions.
- Good organisational and planning skills, with an ability to prioritise.
- Strong IT skills (there will be a requirement to use Hy-Tek Team Manager and Meet Manager software, on which training will be provided by the Club).
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic, professional and trustworthy.

- Mentoring by the Head Coach.
- Appropriate CPD as identified and agreed with the Head Coach.
- Safeguarding and Protecting Children Workshop.
This is a self-employed position with competitive remuneration, depending on experience and qualifications. A 3-month probationary period will require to be completed before the position is confirmed.
