We are the UKs leading supplier of rope-grown mussels and cultivated Pacific oysters. Our products are supplied both as fresh shellfish and as part of a premium range of ready-meal dishes for major retailers and supermarkets. As a co-operative, our farmers are at the heart of everything we do, taking pride in every stage of cultivation and production. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Logistics Manager to lead our Despatch and Logistics operations at our state-of-the-art facility in Bellshill.
Role Overview
The Logistics Manager is responsible for the end-to-end management of the Despatch function, ensuring that all products are delivered on time, in full, and in compliance with food safety, quality, and customer requirements. This role requires strong leadership, operational oversight, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement within a fast-paced FMCG environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Management
- Lead and manage all aspects of the Despatch function, including staffing, performance, and daily operations.
- Ensure efficient coordination of order picking, loading, and vehicle scheduling in line with customer requirements.
- Oversee the receipt and movement of WIP and finished goods between production, storage, and despatch.
- Maintain accurate stock control, ensuring system stock aligns with physical stock at all times.
- Ensure all goods are stored safely and securely to prevent damage or contamination.
- Logistics & Distribution
- Manage relationships with hauliers and transport providers, ensuring effective communication and issue resolution.
- Ensure all customer delivery portals and systems are updated accurately and on time.
- Monitor and manage On Time In Full (OTIF) performance, escalating any risks or shortfalls.
- Coordinate contingency plans for delays, shortages, or disruptions in supply.
- Compliance & Food Safety
- Ensure full compliance with BRC, HACCP, Food Safety Act 1990, and internal quality standards.
- Maintain traceability through accurate completion of all despatch documentation and POD records.
- Ensure FIFO principles and minimum shelf-life requirements are adhered to at all times.
- Manage quarantine stock, ensuring it is clearly identified, segregated, and controlled.
- Systems & Reporting
- Ensure effective use of WMS handheld devices and systems (Nav & Vision for Food) for stock control and traceability.
- Monitor system accuracy and resolve discrepancies through root cause analysis.
- Record, track, and report wastage, implementing corrective actions to reduce loss.
- People Management
- Lead, motivate, and develop the Despatch team, ensuring high levels of engagement and performance.
- Manage labour planning and rotas in line with operational demand and Working Time Regulations.
- Ensure all staff are trained in health & safety, food hygiene, and operational procedures.
- Health, Safety & Hygiene
- Promote a strong health & safety culture, ensuring compliance with company policies and COSHH regulations.
- Ensure all equipment is safely operated and daily start-up checks are completed.
- Maintain high standards of hygiene, housekeeping, and clean as you go practices.
- Monitor temperature controls within despatch chill areas to ensure product integrity.
Key Accountabilities
- Deliver OTIF performance in line with customer expectations.
- Maintain 100% traceability compliance.
- Minimise stock discrepancies and wastage.
- Ensure full compliance with food safety and health & safety standards.
- Drive continuous improvement within logistics operations.
Skills & Experience
- Essential
- Proven experience in a Logistics, Despatch, or Warehouse Management role (FMCG/food environment preferred).
- Experience using WMS systems and handheld scanners.
- Strong working knowledge of stock control, traceability, and dispatch processes.
- Experience managing teams in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel.
- Flexible, reliable, and able to work under pressure.
- Desirable
- FLT (Forklift Truck) licence.
- Experience within FMCG or food manufacturing.
- Knowledge of BRC and HACCP standards.
Working Hours
Monday to Friday: 07:00 - 15:30pm
