Marine Engineer/Mechanic

Marine Engineer/Mechanic

Full-Time On-site
Scottish Sea Farms

Our team in Orkney is growing, and we welcome applications from mechanics and candidates with relevant engineering experience. Whether you’re early in your career or bring extensive experience, we’re keen to hear from talented, motivated individuals interested in joining our engineering department.

If you enjoy hands-on maintenance and take pride in high-quality work, this is an opportunity to put your skills into practice. You’ll join a supportive, forward-thinking team where development and progression are encouraged.

The role

You’ll service and maintain plant equipment and vessels throughout our Orkney estate as part of our engineering team. You’ll also contribute to a varied range of projects, with responsibilities reflecting your experience and qualifications.

We are flexible in tailoring responsibilities and progression opportunities to suit the successful candidate’s level of experience and career ambitions.

What you bring

Whether your background is in mechanics or engineering, we’re looking for a practical, proactive approach and enthusiasm for hands-on maintenance. You’ll be motivated, reliable and eager to learn.

We welcome applications from strong communicators who work well as part of a team and able to demonstrate a strong commitment to maintaining and developing a positive safety culture.

Your working hours will be 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with participation in a weekend and on-call rota also required.

In addition to your annual salary, you’ll receive an island allowance and payments for weekend work, on-call duties and any overtime worked. Total earnings are expected to be in the region of £48,000 per annum.

Our values and how we work

Our values are simple: we care, we innovate and we are ambitious. In this role, you’ll put them into practice through your own actions and the example you set for others.

Always care

You'll treat people with compassion and respect, listen and look out for each other. You'll put safety and wellbeing first, take pride in doing things properly and make choices that protect our people, fish and environment. How you achieve results matters as much as the results themselves.

One team, one result

You'll communicate clearly, share what works and support colleagues across departments and regions. You'll take responsibility for your work, work together to improve performance and profitability, celebrate success and learn together when things don't go to plan.

Keep learning, keep growing

You'll ask questions, listen to feedback and share your ideas. You'll own mistakes, share the lessons and try better ways of working, using what you learn to improve how things are done.

Inspire respect and trust in our actions

You'll be open, honest and consistent. You'll do what you say you'll do, take responsibility for your work and speak up when something isn't right. When things go wrong, you'll acknowledge them and work with others to put them right.

What we offer

You'll have 31 days' holiday, increasing to 32 with length of service, alongside life cover, a pension scheme and an employee assistance programme. We also offer subsidised gym memberships, a cycle to work scheme, a prescription eyewear discount and a contribution towards pre-school childcare.
