Applications are invited for the post of Principal Assessor for National 5 Sociology.
The Principal Assessoris responsible for ensuring all duties and tasks associated with the development and marking of the question papers are undertaken within the conditions, time frames andarrangements set by SQA. They lead, support and work with SQA appointees to ensure consistent application of national standards.
Applicants must currently be involved in the delivery and assessment of National 5 Sociology. Previous leadership experience will be beneficial to the successful applicant.
The post will start inSeptember 2025, with full responsibility starting after the 2025 appeals process has concluded. The applicant should be available to attend an Understanding Standards event on Monday the 17 November 2025.
Should an applicant require release from their employer, they should discuss this before making an application as the successful applicant may require up to 8 days of release. This could be negotiable/variable based on procedural programme.Applicants will also be required to undertake work in their own time (evenings/weekends) to fulfil the duties of this post. For reference, in session 2024-25 the post required 5 days of work during weekdays, 3 during weekend days, along with some unstructured work in own time.
This role attracts a responsibility fee paid quarterly as well as release fees and a daily rate for duties undertaken in own time.
Interviews for successful applicants will be held via MS Teams. We will aim to schedule interviews in the week beginning Monday the 25August.
