A Systems Accountant is a finance technology specialist who bridges the gap between finance and digital innovation. This role is pivotal in optimising financial systems, driving automation, and enabling data-driven decision-making through advanced tools such as Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power BI, RAM Asset Management and the Unit4 ERP platform. Acting as a key enabler of transformation, the Systems Accountant ensures that financial processes are efficient, accurate, and future-ready. Rather than simply maintaining systems, you’ll be involved in shaping how finance operates by introducing new technologies, improving reporting capabilities, and delivering insights that support strategic decisions across the organisation.

Responsibilities:

  • Finance Systems Innovation: Identify and implement automation opportunities, leveraging AI-driven tools and workflows to streamline operations and reduce manual effort. Champion digital transformation projects within finance, ensuring alignment with organisational strategy.
  • Systems Development & Integration: Collaborate with IT and finance teams to deliver system upgrades, integrations, and new technology deployments that enhance financial capability. Act as the subject matter expert for SPS Finance System (Unit4 ERP, RAM Asset Management), ensuring optimal configuration and utilisation.
  • Data Analytics & Insight Generation: Design and deliver dynamic dashboards and reports using Power BI and Microsoft Dynamics 365 to provide real-time insights for decision-makers. Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable intelligence for senior stakeholders.
  • Training & Change Enablement: Lead training programmes for finance teams across all establishments, promoting adoption of new tools and best practices. Serve as a change champion, supporting cultural and process shifts towards digital-first finance.
  • Governance & Compliance: Ensure all system changes and processes comply with internal control frameworks, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements. Maintain robust documentation and audit trails for system developments.

Person Specification: SPS recruitment and selection practice is based on the fundamentals of our Behavioural Competency Framework. This identifies behaviours and standards required both of applicants seeking to join us, and our staff in their respective roles. Assessment of specific behaviours, of which there are twelve, will be determined by the role you are applying for. Whilst it is unlikely you will be assessed on all of them, you will be assessed on these identified as key to role.

Qualifications Requirements: Qualified Accountant (CCAB or Equivalent) or in the final stages of qualification.

Essential Experience Requirements:

Knowledge Skills Requirements:

  • ERP expertise: Proven experience with Unit4 ERP financial systems or equivalent ERP system enterprise.
  • Reporting tools expertise: Proven experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365, PowerBI and other analytical and reporting tools.
  • Attention to details and accuracy: Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.
  • Financial and budgeting reporting proficiency: Knowledge of financial reporting standards, accounting principles and budgeting process.
