The Maintenance Operative – Painter will support the Estates Maintenance Team by primarily carrying out painting and decoration works but will also assist staff to undertake basic routine planned preventative maintenance (PPM), repair tasks, housekeeping and cleaning duties. Work will be carried out to pre-set timescales, technical direction and standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Primarily carry out commercial and domestic painting and decoration works throughout the prison site and the college adjacent.
  • Carry out allocated tasks to support the delivery of Planned Preventative Maintenance schedules including assisting Estates Maintenance staff, building fabric inspections, fire systems and equipment maintenance testing and inspection, PAT Testing and Cell Certification.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and timeously under the direction of a competent engineer.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy working environment through regular housekeeping and hazard identification.
  • Take personal responsibility for reporting any dangers/deficiencies.
  • Undertake other routine work such as minor repair tasks on electrical, plumbing, and building; training will be given where the necessary skills do not exist.
  • Assist with the escorting of specialist external contractors when required.
  • Carry out housekeeping/cleaning duties.

  • Experience in carrying out painting and decoration work, basic engineering planned maintenance, repair tasks; please provide examples of your experience.
  • Skills and experience in using and handling tools and equipment; please provide examples of your experience.
  • Sound knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation and Safe Systems of Work; please provide evidence to demonstrate your knowledge.
