Flexible Working Pattern
This role sits within the Security Department of our corporate function. The Fire System Specialist will be responsible for supporting and assisting the Fire Control Manager to ensure that ScottishPower fulfils all legal requirements across the entire ScottishPower estate. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that all systems are properly maintained and for designing enhancements to existing systems and new installations where required in accordance with ScottishPower’s Fire Management Strategy and ensuring that accurate asset registers are maintained.
What you’ll be doing:
- You’ll provide professional technical support and assistance to the Fire Control Manager on the design of Fire Alarm Systems for new installations and to introduce necessary improvements to existing systems where required across ScottishPower portfolio in accordance with ScottishPower Corporate Security’s long term Strategy.
- You will undertake site surveys, fire protection system inspections and acceptance testing. Also, you’ll collate general specifications for various types of fire detection, suppression and extinguishing fire systems required within the ScottishPower portfolio.
- Responsible for preparing basic and detailed fire engineering specifications, designs and costs for high value, complex or business critical projects.
- Responsible for co-ordinating technical assessment of tender submissions and reporting recommendations.
- Ensure fire engineering designs, equipment and construction practices are in accordance with current legislation, policies and operational requirements.
- Provide technical support to the Project Managers through the delivery and commissioning phases of capital projects.
What you’ll bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Safety Management, related field or a minimum of 3 years of experience in fire protection or related field.
- Experience in the Fire Engineering Industry.
- Experience of Fire Risk Assessments within the power sector desirable.
- Knowledge and experience of design, installation and maintenance of fire systems within industrial and non-industrial environments, including interfacing remote sites to an Alarm Receiving Centre.
- Experience in managing contracts and projects.
- Ability to be pro-active in assisting with the implementation of Scottish Power Fire Management Policies and Procedures.
- Good general IT and communications skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Proven experience in managing budgets.
- Ability to implement, apply and promote CDM and Health & Safety best practice in a design environment.
- Knowledge of COMAH and DSEAR regulations.
- Ability to represent ScottishPower externally.
