About the role
Contract: Monday 14 September 2026 – Sunday 12 September 2027.
Hours: 39-hour week, Monday to Friday (8.30am to 5pm) with some evening and weekend work required.
Location: Edington Street Production Studios and other venues as required.
Salary: £27,384.30 per annum, plus benefits.
Scottish Opera’s Costume Department is offering a trainee position to an enthusiastic person with qualifications in theatre costume making, or experience working in theatre wardrobe. This position is part of our Emerging Artists programme. The successful candidate will receive training from our senior staff and will gain practical experience in all areas of the company’s costume department:
- Making traditional men’s wear and traditional ladies' wear costumes in the workroom
- Costume maintenance, dressing and touring in the Running Wardrobe department
- Costume storage and organisation in our hire department
- Costume supervision and budgeting for a small Scottish Opera production
The contract is based at Scottish Opera’s Production Studios at Edington Street, at the Theatre Royal Glasgow, and on tour with the company. All candidates must be able to demonstrate a pre-existing right to work in the UK and documentary proof of this will be requested at interview.
