Working for Clare Haughey MSP

Clare Haughey MSP is seeking a part-time Caseworker to become part of her Rutherglen-based Constituency team. You’ll work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment to provide an outstanding service for constituents. The role will involve being a primary point of contact for constituents to assist with a wide range of issues. Your duties will include administration, research and casework. It is essential the successful candidate works well in a team, and has excellent communication and people skills.

Responsibilities
  • Carrying out general office administration and acting as front of office for enquiries (answering the telephone and speaking with local residents who visit the constituency office).
  • Responding to all incoming correspondence while professionally managing each enquiry within agreed timescales.
  • Coordinating, tracking and monitoring the handling of enquiries and ensuring they are dealt with timeously and professionally.
  • Drafting written correspondence such as letters, requests for information, and parliamentary questions and motions.
  • Keeping casework up to date and responding to public enquiries.
  • Keeping cases up to date by tracking, logging and recognising when to elevate issues within team.
  • Meeting constituents on a wide range of issues, including those of a sensitive nature and escalating accordingly.
  • Advocating on constituents’ behalf with relevant bodies to resolve matters.
  • Reviewing constituent records and documentation in line with casework GDPR requirements.
  • Ensuring casework filing systems, both electronic and manual, are kept up to date in line with GDPR requirements.
  • Maintaining office records and compliance with data protection.
  • Maintaining filing system and managing records.
  • Ensuring compliance with data protection legislation and GDPR requirements.
  • Ensuring administrative and secretarial support is provided.
  • Any other reasonable duties.
Skills and Experience
  • Have excellent written, verbal and IT skills with accurate attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyse, evaluate and interpret information accurately.
  • Have a flexible and adaptable approach, being able to use good judgement and work on own initiative.
  • Be well-organised with the ability to prioritise competing workloads.
  • Be patient and sensitive while remaining objective and open.
  • Be comfortable being in a front-facing role explaining regulations such as GDPR to the public.
  • Be acutely aware of the responsibility of representing those unable to do so themselves in certain situations.
  • Have a natural interest in helping people with a curiosity to probe for further information where required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current affairs, including the Scottish political scene.
  • Experience of working in a Parliamentary Constituency office.
  • Experience of working and dealing with the public, with organisations and with volunteers.
  • Knowledge of the Rutherglen & Cambuslang constituency.
  • Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office and Casework systems.
