Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice to a wide range of Council services including Licensing, Housing, the Homeless Team, Social Work, Education and Bereavement Services.
  • Take a focus on complex cases conducted in court or Tribunal.
  • Assist in other areas of litigation work.
  • Advocate effectively in court and tribunals, including the Sheriff court, Court of Session, First Tier Tribunal and related hearings.
  • Work as part of a team to solve complex problems and support colleagues.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified solicitor, admitted to the Bar.
  • Experience of housing cases, anti-social behaviour and property litigation preferred.
  • Experience of contentious litigation, including handling cases in the Sheriff court and/or Judicial Reviews in the Court of Session, beneficial.
  • Experience of education disputes, presenting cases at the First Tier Tribunal and School appeals desirable but not essential.
  • Strong litigation and advocacy skills.
  • Positive attitude, willingness to learn and teamwork ability.

  • Standard disclosure check required; Overseas Criminal Record Check required for any continuous period of 3 months or more outside the UK within the last 5 years.
  • Flexible work arrangements may be discussed.
