The Highlands & Islands family law team has an exciting opportunity for a lawyer to join their growing team. We are looking for a pro‑active candidate eager to gain experience in family law matters. The successful candidate will be a focused, ambitious and self‑motivated lawyer who will be expected to work collaboratively with other members of the team in a variety of cases covering the whole spectrum of family law. We attract a diverse range of family law work, from complex high‑value divorce cases to advising modest‑wealth clients in a cost‑effective way. Regardless of the individual for whom we are acting, we provide excellent client care with a solution‑orientated approach. We look for a candidate who takes a human approach to looking after our family law clients by providing them with clear direction and sound advice.

Core Tasks

  • Providing solution‑orientated advice to clients on financial provision upon separation and divorce and acting for clients in child related matters including residence and contact disputes, child relocation cases, international child abduction, adoption and surrogacy.
  • Engaging, meeting and advising clients along with other members of the team.
  • Taking excellent care of clients from the beginning of their cases through to the end.
  • Working collaboratively with other team members to look after their clients, including: attending client meetings and follow‑up work, preparing inventories of productions, taking statements from witnesses and covering court hearings in the Sheriff Court.
  • Participating in the practice area’s business development and strategic objectives in order to grow our client base.
  • Regularly preparing insights for the team website, carrying out research, working on legal updates for the team and producing social media content.
  • Being aware of Brodies’ information security policies, and protecting information from unauthorised access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference at all times.
