The Head of Legal is responsible for leading the Scottish FA’s legal function, ensuring that all activity across Scottish football is supported by robust legal frameworks, clear regulatory structures and effective operational delivery. Working under the strategic direction of the Chief Governance Officer, the Head of Legal serves as the Scottish FA’s principal legal expert, translating governance strategy into legally-sound processes, regulations, contracts and compliance mechanisms.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the Chief Governance Officer’s primary legal interface, ensuring governance strategies are supported by robust legal interpretation and structures.
- Implement the governance and regulatory vision set by the Chief Governance Officer, providing operational legal leadership across all relevant functions.
- Ensure that all legal work and regulatory activity align with the Scottish FA’s strategic objectives and the governance priorities defined by the Chief Governance Officer.
- Provide legal expertise to Chief Governance Officer-led governance reviews and engagements by the Board and other corporate organs of the Scottish FA.
- Lead the drafting, maintenance and legal review of all Scottish FA rules and regulations, including the articles of association.
- Ensure the Scottish FA rules and regulations are legally-sound, enforceable and reflective of best practice in football governance.
- Provide legal advice and guidance in connection with the interpretation, application and enforcement of the Scottish FA rules and regulations.
- Oversee the legal infrastructure supporting the various organs of the Scottish FA and their respective processes.
- Provide legal support and guidance to Scottish FA departments.
