About the Firm

Thompsons Solicitors Scotland is a distinctive law firm dealing with personal injury, employment law and professional disciplinary cases. We are seeking a Solicitor to represent private, non‑legal‑aid clients and trade union members in both the criminal courts and in Professional Disciplinary Hearings. We frequently represent clients who have been summoned before the Scottish Social Services Council, Nursing and Midwifery Council, General Teaching Council and other regulators across Scotland.

Why Join Us?

  • Competitive Salary: £44,812 - £49,275 per annum depending on experience, reflecting the expertise required for the role.
  • Dynamic Team Culture: Collaborate with professionals committed to excellence and client care.
  • Flexibility: Enjoy hybrid working arrangements to support your work‑life balance. Can be based from any of our Scottish offices (Dundee, Edinburgh or Glasgow). As the team is primarily located in Glasgow, occasional travel for meetings and training will be required.

About the Role

You will be responsible for your own case portfolio comprising primarily of professional disciplinary and criminal matters, with occasional Fatal Accident Inquiry and civil litigation involvement. You will be familiar with both criminal and civil court procedure and have the confidence and experience to run criminal and professional disciplinary cases from inception to conclusion, including significant client contact and lengthy advocacy where required. Experience of Fatal Accident Inquiries is not essential, as training will be given. This is a varied and challenging role, but one where a suitable candidate will have the chance to rapidly develop their career. Working directly with the Supervising Partner, you will liaise with and provide advice to trade union officials as required, and will be expected to travel with the Thompsons delegation to trade union conferences and meetings.

What We’re Looking For

Ideally we are seeking a candidate with experience in regulatory work, as this would be highly advantageous for the role. However, the position would also be well suited to a criminal solicitor who is keen to broaden their expertise and take on new challenges within a dynamic team. Our professional disciplinary cases are often a direct result of criminal charges being brought against the client, thus representation for the same client across criminal and regulatory fields is common. Representing trade union members means we cover the whole of Scotland, thus a car driver is preferred.

What We Offer

  • Competitive Salary: Reflective of your expertise and leadership.
  • Professional Growth: Opportunities for training, mentorship and advancement.
  • Work‑Life Balance: Flexible and hybrid working options.
  • Inclusive Environment: Be part of a collaborative and forward‑thinking team.

Closing date: 8th May 2026. We may close applications early due to high interest, so early application is encouraged.
