We’re looking for an experienced Family Lawyer to join our Family Law team in Aberdeen. This is an exceptional opportunity to become part of one of Scotland’s largest and most respected Family Law teams, working alongside leading specialists on a broad range of high-quality private client matters.

As part of a firm with a genuine national presence, you’ll have the opportunity to work with colleagues across Scotland, drawing on the depth of expertise, experience and support that comes from being part of a market-leading team. Based in Aberdeen, you’ll advise clients through some of the most significant and sensitive moments in their lives, delivering practical, compassionate and commercially focused advice tailored to their individual circumstances.

It’s about:

  • Managing a varied caseload – Advising clients across the full spectrum of family law matters including separation, divorce, financial provision, cohabitation disputes, child law matters, pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements, adoption, surrogacy and international family law issues.
  • Client experience – Building trusted relationships with clients and providing clear, pragmatic and empathetic advice during often challenging and life-changing circumstances.
  • Dispute resolution – Supporting clients to achieve positive outcomes through negotiation, mediation and other forms of dispute resolution wherever appropriate, while also handling court proceedings when required.
  • Building strong relationships – Developing lasting relationships with clients and supporting them through some of life’s most significant and challenging moments, providing clear, practical advice and reassurance when they need it most.
  • Working collaboratively across the firm – Drawing on the breadth of expertise across Thorntons to ensure clients have access to the specialist advice they need, delivering a seamless and joined-up service tailored to their individual circumstances.
  • Growth & profile – Playing an active role in strengthening our presence in the Aberdeen market and contributing to the continued growth and success of our Family Law practice across Scotland.

What You’ll Need:

  • Experience in family law, particularly keen to hear from more experienced candidates seeking a senior appointment in this team, with great prospects for future progression.
  • Experience managing a broad range of family law matters with confidence and autonomy.
  • Strong technical knowledge combined with excellent judgement and a practical, solution-focused approach.
  • Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to guide clients through complex and sensitive situations.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • A proactive mindset with an interest in business development and building professional networks.
  • A collaborative approach and a genuine desire to contribute to one of Scotland’s leading Family Law teams.
