With a close-knit team of around 250 colleagues and 26 Partners across offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and London, Turcan Connell’s comprehensive service covers everything required for efficient tax, estate and succession planning as well as advice on the many aspects of land and property management and transactional activity. We also handle the complexities of divorce and family law, employment law and dispute resolution advice and provide a range of business law services to our clients.

We have a new opportunity for a Family Law Solicitor with 3 to 5 years’ PQE to join our team. Our Family Law team provides advice on all aspects of separation, divorce, cohabitation and issues arising from relationship breakdowns, whether of a financial nature or concerning the care of children. We are also heavily engaged in asset protection, including the preparation of prenuptial, postnuptial and cohabitation agreements.

The role will principally be based in our Edinburgh office. The successful candidate will be involved in advising clients on various issues which may arise on or after separation. That includes negotiating settlements on our client’s behalf, and attending court as required. You will also handle the preparation of prenuptial, postnuptial and cohabitation agreements. You will be expected to have a sound knowledge of Scottish family law and be able to handle a wide variety of challenging work with minimum supervision. The successful candidate will have significant experience in financial provision work.

In providing advice to clients, you will work with colleagues across land and property, tax and succession, business law, charity law and alongside employment law and litigation experts to ensure that fully integrated holistic advice is given to our clients. As you will become a trusted adviser and sounding board to your clients, you will need to have an interest in people and their affairs and will act with discretion and empathy.

To be successful, you will be a strong team player with sound practical and technical experience. You will have the curiosity and enthusiasm to develop your technical skills and progress your career in a collegiate and supportive environment. You will be self-sufficient, commercially aware, and able to handle a wide variety of challenging work with minimum supervision. An interest in non-court dispute resolution and a knowledge of mediation, arbitration and/or collaborative law would be beneficial.
