We are recruiting two Senior Developers to play a key role in building and improving the digital systems that support access to justice in Scotland. Working within an Agile delivery team, you'll help modernise both public-facing and internal legal aid systems, ensuring they are secure, reliable, and built to last.
This is a hands-on role with real influence. You'll lead development on groups of related user stories, contribute to technical design decisions, and support less experienced developers. While the role aligns with the UK Government Digital, Data and Technology framework, we value flexibility, collaboration, and a willingness to get involved where needed in a small but capable public sector team.
If you are an experienced developer with a positive, improvement-focused attitude who's ready to bring curiosity, resilience, and a commitment to building better services, we want to hear from you!
Key responsibilities include:- Leading and contributing to the design, build, and delivery of modern web applications using React and Java/Spring
- Applying sound software architecture and design principles to improve system robustness, resilience, and scalability
- Building and maintaining secure, well-designed REST APIs and integrations
- Mentoring and supporting other developers, raising overall engineering standards
- Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues to maintain stable, reliable services
- Working closely with product, testing, and stakeholder colleagues during the delivery lifecycle
- Strong experience developing production systems using React, Java, Spring, and relational databases
- A solid understanding of information security and how to design secure services by default
- Experience working in Agile teams, with a clear focus on user needs and accessibility
- The ability to design, review, and improve systems of moderate complexity
- A strong work ethic, good judgement, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving
- A genuine interest in building high-quality public services that make a real difference
