Great engineering organisations don’t just meet compliance requirements - they create cultures where compliance, safety, and operational excellence are embedded into every process, every decision, and every outcome. By building strong governance, proactive risk management, and disciplined engineering practices into daily operations, they protect people, strengthen reliability, maintain audit readiness, and ensure long‑term business performance.

As a Senior Compliance Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role at the centre of our engineering and operational environment, combining your technical expertise, leadership capability, and passion for continuous improvement to ensure our engineering activities consistently meet the highest regulatory, safety, and operational standards. From leading compliance initiatives and audits to strengthening maintenance governance and supporting engineering teams, your work will directly influence operational integrity, asset reliability, and business performance.

In this role you will:

  • Provide visible engineering compliance leadership, promoting a culture where safety, accountability, and regulatory excellence are embedded into daily operations across engineering and maintenance teams.
  • Lead and ensure compliance with engineering regulations, ISO standards, and internal governance requirements, translating regulatory expectations into effective engineering procedures and operational practices.
  • Lead preparation for internal and external audits, acting as the key engineering contact while ensuring corrective and preventive actions are implemented, tracked, and closed effectively.
  • Develop, review, and maintain engineering procedures, policies, asset registers, and controlled documentation to ensure compliance, traceability, and audit readiness.
  • Identify engineering and maintenance compliance risks through assessments, inspections, and operational reviews, implementing effective mitigation strategies and control measures.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance compliance programmes are fully implemented and accurately managed within CMMS systems, supporting operational reliability and engineering performance.
  • Analyse engineering, maintenance, and compliance data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for continuous improvement across compliance, reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate contractors and support engineering teams through guidance, training, and coaching on compliance requirements, helping strengthen capability, consistency, and accountability across the business.

You’re someone who understands that engineering compliance is about far more than meeting standards - it’s about protecting people, supporting operational reliability, enabling continuous improvement, and creating a culture where excellence and accountability are instinctive.

You will have demonstrable experience within an engineering compliance, maintenance, or operational engineering environment, ideally across complex or multi‑site operations. You possess strong knowledge of engineering compliance frameworks, regulatory standards, ISO management systems, and maintenance governance principles. You bring proven experience leading audits, managing non‑conformances, and implementing effective corrective and preventive actions to closure. You are confident developing, reviewing, and maintaining engineering procedures, policies, and controlled documentation systems to support compliance and audit readiness. You demonstrate strong analytical and problem‑solving capability, identifying root causes, managing risks, and implementing sustainable improvement actions. You possess excellent communication, leadership, and influencing skills, with the ability to engage, support, and coach colleagues at all levels. You are highly organised, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail and strong IT and systems capability. You hold or are working towards Engineering Professional Registration, with relevant Engineering, Health & Safety, and Internal Auditor qualifications considered highly advantageous.

The impact you will have:

You will play a key role in strengthening engineering compliance, governance, and operational discipline across the business, ensuring engineering and maintenance activities consistently meet regulatory, safety, and quality standards. Working closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Health & Safety teams, you will help reduce compliance risks, improve audit readiness, and strengthen operational reliability. Your contribution will drive continuous improvement, enhance engineering standards, and help build a culture where compliance, safety, and operational excellence are embedded into every process, decision, and activity across the business.

What’s in it for you:

You’ll benefit from a comprehensive rewards package designed to support your wellbeing, financial security, and career development. This includes a company pension, life assurance, company sick pay, enhanced annual leave that increases with service, and access to a health and wellbeing programme alongside an Employee Assistance Programme with private GP services.
