Scottish Information Commissioner
The Scottish Information Commissioner is an independent authority established to promote and uphold the principles of freedom of information in Scotland. Our mission is to ensure that public authorities are transparent and accountable, providing citizens with access to information that enhances democratic engagement.
We oversee the implementation of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, which grants individuals the right to request information held by public bodies. Our core activities include:
- Providing guidance and support to public authorities on compliance with information requests.
- Investigating complaints from individuals who believe their rights to access information have been denied.
- Promoting best practices in information management and transparency.
- Conducting awareness campaigns to educate the public about their rights under the law.
At the Scottish Information Commissioner, we believe that access to information is a fundamental right that empowers citizens and strengthens democracy. Our vision is to create a culture of openness where information is freely available, fostering trust between the public and government institutions.
We are committed to continuous improvement and regularly review our processes to ensure they meet the needs of the public and public authorities alike. Join us in our efforts to promote transparency and accountability in Scotland.
