Overview
We are seeking a technically minded Senior IT Service Transition Manager to support our digital change programme by effectively applying the ITIL framework. In this role, you will manage, plan, and govern the transition of new and updated technologies and services through our release process to live production, ensuring seamless integration and service excellence.
As a leader in our service management branch, you will understand how to integrate ITIL principles into processes that meet the specific needs of a business. You will work in a small team and be jointly responsible for overseeing critical ITIL processes within Implementation Management, Release, Deployment and Change. You will also work closely with stakeholders across Development, Test, and Cloud Environments. Therefore, a strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle using Agile / Waterfall methodologies is critical to success in this role.

A Senior IT Service Manager (IT Service Transition) is responsible for service management across platforms, multiple channels and services to ensure service availability, performance and process maturity.
You will be responsible for service management within the ITIL Framework stage of Service Transition, this covers multiple ITIL processes including but not limited to: Implementation management, Release and Deployment management, Service Validation and Testing, Change evaluation, and Knowledge management.
DDaT Pay Supplement
This post is part of the Scottish Government Digital, Data and Technology (DDAT) profession and as a member of the profession you will join the professional development system. This post currently attracts a £5,000 annual DDAT pay supplement, applicable after a 3 months competency qualifying period. The payment will be backdated to your start date in the role. Pay supplements are reviewed regularly and there is one currently underway. Changes will be communicated when the review is concluded.
Main Duties
- Promote and implement ITIL and relevant best practices for managing IT Services through IT Service Transition.
- Manage configuration items, service compliance, risks, and related information.
- Analyse conflicting information to develop effective solutions.
- Take accountability for issue resolution and proactively identify potential problems.
- Build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships while defining strategies and policies aligned with business objectives.
- Establish policy and standards to provide guidance to others and, evaluate and implement changes.
- Ensure adherence to service management policy and governance frameworks.
- Lead investigations into existing processes to identify problems and opportunities.
- Collect data and create recommendations for process improvements.
- Utilise evidence-based decision-making to identify and implement continuous service improvement activities.
- Deliver measurable outcomes for users and assess the overarching service landscape for optimisation.
