DevOps Engineer in Glasgow

Help shape the future of a vital national safeguarding service and make a meaningful impact for people across Scotland. We are recruiting for two DevOps Engineer posts within the Digital Team at Disclosure Scotland. As part of the Scottish Government, Disclosure Scotland delivers criminal record checks and safeguarding services that help protect Scotland's children and vulnerable adults, supporting safer recruitment and volunteering across the country. Joining a skilled and collaborative team, you will contribute to the ongoing development and continuous improvement of Disclosure Scotland's digital services following the successful implementation of the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020. This role offers an excellent opportunity to broaden your technical expertise, work with modern technologies and play a key part in ensuring our digital platforms continue to support the delivery of secure, reliable and efficient safeguarding services for Scotland.

Responsibilities:

• You manage service components to ensure they meet business needs and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• You support specific activities to improve development processes.
• You identify obvious deficiencies.
• You design solutions and services with security controls included, specifically engineered to mitigate security threats.
• You apply the latest technologies and best practices to improve the quality of the software development process, under guidance.
• You use the agreed specifications to design, code, test and document programs or scripts or software configuration of medium-to-high complexity, using the right standards and tools.
• You establish design patterns and iterate them.
• You use a variety of prototyping methods and choose the most appropriate.
• You identify, locate and fix service faults.
• You design systems characterised by managed levels of risk, manageable business and technical complexity, and meaningful impact.
• You work with well understood technology and identify appropriate patterns.
• You effectively document all work.
• You build and test simple interfaces between systems.
• You work on more complex integration as part of a wider team.

Qualifications:

Experience:

• You have used agreed specifications to design, code, test and document programs or scripts or software configuration of medium-to-high complexity, using the right standards and tools.
• You have identified, located and fixed faults in a live service.
• You have applied the latest technologies and best practices to improve the quality of the software development process.
• You have built and tested simple interfaces between systems.
• You have worked on more complex integration as part of a wider team.

Technical Skills: This role is aligned to DevOps Engineer in the Digital, Data and Technology Profession. These skills will be tested during the Technical Assessment if you are successful at sift stage. They will not be assessed at application stage.

Security checks: Successful candidates must complete the Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), before they can be appointed. BPSS is comprised of four main pre-employment checks – Identity, Right to work, Employment History and a Criminal Record check (unspent convictions). Internal candidates may need to gain higher security clearance than they currently hold if successful in their application. In addition to BPSS, this role requires Home Office Security Clearance checks (SC), the successful candidate will either hold SC already or be willing to go through the process of gaining this.

Pay supplement: This post is part of the Government Digital and Data (GDD) profession and currently attracts a £6000 annual GDD pay supplement, which is paid monthly – pay supplements are reviewed regularly.
