Join Social Security Scotland as a Product Lead within the Data Change team and play a key role in delivering high-quality data, reporting, and insights across the organisation. Sitting within the Data Services branch of the Data Office, you’ll support the Product Owner to shape and deliver a suite of dashboards and management information, using AWS and Microsoft platforms. You’ll help ensure data products meet business needs, are delivered at the right time and quality, and continue to add value through ongoing improvement.
Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you’ll guide delivery approaches, turn complex requirements into clear solutions, and help maximise the impact and use of data across the organisation—while developing your skills and progressing your career in a supportive, collaborative team environment.
At this role level, you will:
- Have expert product management skills
- Potentially be involved in elements of programme management activity
- Be involved in hiring associates, product managers and contractors
Responsibilities:
- Identify and recommend the most effective approaches, processes, and delivery methods, using data to measure and evaluate outcomes.
- Support teams to choose the best solutions, balancing user needs, business goals, and constraints.
- Lead analysis across the product lifecycle, ensuring work is aligned to priorities, scope, and minimum viable product (MVP) goals.
- Translate complex or limited information into clear insights to guide decision-making.
- Deliver and embed data products and insights that integrate with other services and are actively used.
- Track and demonstrate value by linking delivery back to business cases and intended benefits.
- Work collaboratively within Agile teams to prioritise work, shape user stories, and adapt approaches as needs change.
- Recognise when to progress, pause, or stop work based on evidence, risks, and opportunities.
- Plan and engage with stakeholders at the right points, building strong relationships and influencing decisions.
- Recommend and apply the most appropriate tools, methods, and techniques for different contexts.
- Design, improve, and implement operational processes to support the delivery and ongoing management of products and services.
- Act as a point of escalation for complex operational issues, resolving challenges and overcoming constraints.
- Work closely with operational delivery teams across Government Digital and Data to ensure successful outcomes.
- Promote flexible, innovative ways of working, adapting to change and turning constraints into opportunities.
Qualifications:
We use an assessment framework called ‘Success Profiles’ which lists the elements we test and provides detailed descriptions of each. For this post, the following Success Profile elements will be assessed:
- Experience: Strong experience working with Agile and Lean practices, with the ability to choose the right approach for the team and evaluate it throughout the project.
- Ability to clearly define and communicate problem statements, and support others to do the same.
- Experience adapting approaches to work effectively within constraints and changing circumstances.
Behaviours: Leadership - (Level 3)
This role is aligned to Senior Product Manager within the Government Digital and Data Profession. These skills will be tested during the Technical Assessment if you are successful at sift stage.
