The Benefit Expenditure and Debt Finance team is responsible for ensuring the organisation has robust financial management arrangements, whilst ensuring value for money for the taxpayer. The team also plays a key role in the preparation of the Annual Report and Accounts. As a B2 Assistant Finance Manager you will be responsible for the provision of regular financial management advice and support to non-finance staff and play a lead role in the Annual Report and Accounts Audit.
You will play an important role in supporting the delivery of Social Security Scotland’s financial objectives. Working collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders across the organisation, you will provide financial analysis, insight and support to help inform decision-making, ensure effective financial management and contribute to the continuous improvement of finance services and processes. You will build strong working relationships, develop your financial expertise and help drive positive outcomes across a range of finance activities.


Responsibilities

  • Support the development, implementation and ongoing operation of Social Security Scotland's future payment and accounting systems, helping to ensure they deliver efficient, effective and robust financial management capabilities.
  • Contribute to monthly reconciliations and internal controls, analysis and review, management sign off. Provide oversight and support for Social Security Scotland’s banking and cash management activities and processes.
  • Oversee and manage team workload, deadlines and priorities. This will include people management responsibilities.
  • Provide support for the accounting of benefit expenditure and associated debt.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with colleagues within Social Security Scotland, the wider directorate, Audit Scotland, the Scottish Government including Treasury and Banking and the Department for Work and Pensions.
  • Assist with the preparation of the Annual Report and Accounts.
  • Work flexibly across the Finance team, taking on a range of other work as required to ensure that priorities are met and to support professional training.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of financial information and reports, to increase financial awareness and accountability across the team.

Working Pattern
Our standard hours are 35 hours per week and we offer a range of flexible working options, depending on the needs of the role. We embrace a hybrid working style where all colleagues will spend time in either our Glasgow or Dundee offices.
