Job description
This role leads and directs experienced professionals with strong technical scientific, backgrounds in the field of drinking water quality and allied industries. The role requires a high level of expertise in all aspects of drinking water supply; the interpretation of law, fair and proportionate enforcement of legal requirements and the provision of sound advice
ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities
- Leadership and Management: Leading a team of technical, scientific professionals, efficiently managing resources and delivering objectives.
- Assessment of the performance of Scottish Water in delivery of statutory duties and protection of public health, advising DWQR of necessary enforcement actions.
- Ensuring, leading where necessary, investigations into operational events and incidents providing independent reports with recommendations to prevent recurrence.
- Providing expert advice on drinking water quality, including private supplies, supporting the development of regulatory policies.
- Maintaining relationships with Scottish water and other water companies, local authorities, other regulators, industry bodies and research groups
Person Specification
Qualifications
- A scientific degree or equivalent qualification in subject related to drinking water supply or water quality.
- Technically experienced in a relevant discipline (such as microbiology, chemistry, or engineering ideally to postgraduate level with chartered status (or working toward)

Working pattern
Our standard hours are 35 hours per week and we offer a range of flexible working options depending on the needs of the role, including Flexi-leave. Scottish Government staff in hybrid-compatible roles should aim to work in-person 40% of the time, either in an office or other agreed work location. Security checks
Successful candidates must complete the Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), before they can be appointed. BPSS is comprised of four main pre-employment checks β Identity, Right to work, Employment History and a Criminal Record check (unspent convictions).
