The Directorate for Internal Audit and Assurance provides an independent, risk-based audit service to the Scottish Government, its executive agencies and a broad range of public bodies. The Directorate operates collaboratively, bringing together specialist expertise to provide timely, proportionate assurance and support effective decision-making.
As an Assurance Support Officer in the Directorate for Internal Audit and Assurance (DIAA), you will work with an established team to support the delivery of independent internal audit and assurance services to the Scottish Government and portfolio of public bodies we provide a service to. You’ll work with stakeholders throughout various assurance processes to help drive improvements across government so our risks are well managed.
You will be involved in key stages of the audit and assurance lifecycle – supporting teams in regards to assignment planning, testing, reporting, and contributing to key strategic documents. You will contribute to improvement work across the Directorate – working as part of a team to deliver wide reaching projects, or individually to lead out distinct pieces of improvement activity. In the SG DIAA, the ASO is a great role to gain experience across a range of complex public sector bodies and to gain experience in various assurance professions.
Responsibilities- Operational support for the provision of independent programme and project assurance and the delivery of audit and assurance plans/activities.
- Support senior officers in preparing key strategic documentation.
- Analysis of and presentation of data to support the provision of assurance activity.
- Information management and maintenance of formal records.
- Provision of first line response to routine queries and correspondence.
- Contributing to continuous improvement work across the Directorate.
- Attending workshops with stakeholders and assisting in networking with people within the organisation to build working relationships and help articulate the Directorate’s mission, strategy, what the function is trying to accomplish and the plan to deliver.
- Personal responsibility for learning and development, supported by the Directorate, to ensure you have the skills needed to deliver assignments to a high standard.
- Work flexibly to contribute to wider DIAA delivery, including working across teams in the Directorate. This provides development opportunities to build skills and experience across different independent assurance functions.
- Contribute towards responses in respect of challenges to audit and assurance reports.
This role is a permanent level transfer position.
