Job Description
Do you want to be part of something more than just a financial services business? Do you believe everyone, regardless of wealth, should have the opportunity to save and look after their loved ones? Do you want to be part of something that has been here for 160 years and help it be here for 160 more?
Scottish Friendly have an exciting opportunity to join our team. Based in Glasgow City Centre, we are one of the most progressive mutual life insurance offices in the UK. We have a strong, clear culture which has grown since 1862 with our customers and colleagues of today and the future being at the heart of that growth.
We’re on the lookout for a Graphic Designer to bring bold ideas and brilliant execution to our small but mighty creative team. You’ll help shape national campaigns, push creative boundaries, and inject fresh energy into everything we do from striking print to dynamic digital and beyond.
This isn’t just a design role, it’s a chance to influence brand direction, pitch standout concepts to senior stakeholders, and grow within a team that champions originality, collaboration, and craft.
You’ll be hands-on across the full creative process, from interpreting briefs and generating ideas to delivering polished, multi-channel assets. With a sharp eye for detail and strong organisational skills, you’ll take ownership of brand messaging, campaign creative, and take the lead on internal/external communications working with and reporting directly to the Creative Design Manager.
Expect variety: one day you’ll be designing for print or web, writing the next scripts for radio or animating for social. You’ll also manage internal projects mostly autonomously end-to end, from designing and typesetting corporate reports to brand initiatives, ensuring every touchpoint reflects our creative standards. Experience in the B2C space is essential. We’re also interested in your passion, versatility, and creative spark.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create. You’ll lead the development of design concepts from initial idea through to final execution across both print and digital platforms. This role involves working mostly autonomously on interpreting project briefs, conducting research, and generating innovative creative that aligns with our brand identity and strategic goals. You'll also create compelling headlines and copy that bring your visuals to life, ensuring every piece tells a cohesive and impactful story.
- Design for impact. Craft visually impactful campaigns that cut through the noise spanning national OOH takeovers, press spreads, digital ads, and scroll-stopping animated content for social, as well as video edits and print materials. Bring internal narratives to life with standout design for corporate reports, customer correspondence, product guides, presentations and key brand moments.
- Collaborate. Collaborate closely with the Creative Design Manager, senior stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to develop and present innovative creative concepts. Partner with the wider commercial team to manage projects from initial brief through concept development to final execution, ensuring high-quality delivery within deadlines and resource constraints, while balancing both short and long-term creative needs. Engage with senior leaders across Marketing, Product, and Customer Experience to align creative outputs with business objectives and customer insights.
- Crafting perfection. Balance technical accuracy with creative finesse to craft flawless print and digital content by owning electronic proofing, and delivering every piece on time, no matter the complexity or scale. Use performance data and customer insights to iterate and optimise creative assets for maximum engagement and conversion.
- Leading with innovation. Help fuel fresh thinking by exploring new tools, workflows, and tech keeping our creative engine running sharp and ahead of the curve. Constantly evolve existing and new content by spotting trends early and turning inspiration into innovation.
- Elevate our brand. Act as a brand guardian, contributing to the evolution of brand strategy and visual identity across all touchpoints. Be responsible for maintaining strong brand identity guidelines and leading out on ensuring consistent application across all marketing materials and business communications, both internally and externally.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience in a creative design role within an agency or in-house creative function.
- Degree in Graphic Design or related field.
- A strong portfolio showcasing campaigns across print, digital and motion, with demonstrable experience in direct response consumer campaigns.
