Our aim is to:

  • Provide a high-quality service allowing them to be in peak physical condition and enabling them to play for and succeed for their country.
  • Work closely with all members of the interdisciplinary team (IDT) and liaise effectively with Clubs to ensure seamless transition from club to country.

We are now seeking highly motivated and experienced Physiotherapists to join our Performance Department pool of practitioners to provide coverage for our national squads, on a consultancy basis, for Men’s, Women’s and youth squads. We have 3 separate categories (category 1, 2 and 3) relating to the ages of the squads and for each gender. We are looking for candidates who have a proven track record of delivering elite-level medical services in a high-performance football environment. They will possess experience and a dedication to excellence, and a passion to represent Scotland, and be able to demonstrate experience in either the men’s and women’s game or at youth levels. Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Assessment, Reasoning and Treatment: Conduct thorough assessments when required and deliver evidence-based (EB) clinical reasoning when preparing and undertaking any treatment for players (on and off the pitch).
  • Injury Prevention: Utilising EB approaches to monitor players and conduct injury prevention strategies (in line with their parent club’s prescription) utilising data from IDT to minimize injury risk and enhance player opportunities.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Interprofessional Disciplinary Team (IDT), which may include Doctors, Physiotherapists, Sports Scientists, Analysts; Soft Tissue therapists, Coaches, and Technical staff, to ensure integrated care for players, as well as the Performance Leads.
  • Matchday and Camp Responsibilities: Provide in camp, pitch-side, in-game medical provision on and off the pitch and other medical duties in camps both home and away.
  • Research and Innovation: As part of the Scottish FA research and innovation initiatives, follow the latest research and contribute to the development of innovative practices within the department and educate players when appropriate.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for all players, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Accountability: As part of the national medical team, be accountable for the equipment under your care ensuring Scottish FA procedures are followed.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise:

You will have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in physiotherapy with ideally subsequent relevant postgraduate qualifications. You will be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as well as hold Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP) membership. You will have relevant required on-pitch first aid qualifications with advanced pitch side care qualification preferred.

Additionally, you will be expected to have experience and expertise in musculoskeletal assessment and treatment with strong rehabilitation skills in an elite sports environment. You will have strong analytic and problem-solving skills and demonstrate a genuine passion for football medicine applied to the Scotland National squads. You will be a clear communicator with the ability to explain big concepts in small words and will be regularly required to present your opinions and processes to the wider MDT as well as relaying key medical facts to parent Clubs in a clear concise and timely manner. You will complete all medical documentation required throughout the camps in a timely manner. It is essential that you can build a good relationship with players, coaches and other staff and have proven leadership qualities and experience. You will share in our passion of applying evidence-based practices in the role but ensure you follow the Scottish FA Performance Department vision, policies and procedures in order to complement the high-performance environment. You will be accomplished in working together with others roles, ensuring that standards are set to the highest levels.
