The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Workshop Operative, based in Fleet & Equipment Workshop West Cambuslang ARC on a permanent contract. This is a full-time opportunity working 35 hours per week however applications from individuals seeking to work on a part time, job share or flexible working basis would be considered.

The successful candidate will be required to maintain the cleanliness of Fleet and Equipment Workshops and associated buildings. They will provide labouring assistance to the Fleet Support Technicians in the servicing, inspection and repair of the vehicles and associated auxiliary equipment that falls within the remit of the Fleet & Equipment Workshop.

Previous experience of working in a busy Vehicle/Engineering Workshop is required.

Applicants are required to hold a current category B driving licence (car/van) and will be required to carry out any labouring & cleaning duties associated with the Workshop premises and grounds ensuring compliance with the Workshops Environmental and Quality standards. To carry out labouring duties as directed by the Fleet and Equipment Workshop Supervisors. Adopt the Safe working practices of the workshops in relation to Manual handling together with mechanical aids and equipment provided for the role.

The working week will be 35 hours over a compressed 4 day work pattern as follows;

Week 1: Monday – Wednesday 0800 – 1730

Thursday 0800 – 1630

Week 2: Tuesday – Thursday 0800 – 1730

Friday 0800 – 1630

There is a 30 minute unpaid lunch per day.

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review – in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements. A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.
