Operational Comms Engineer

Overview

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Operational Comms Engineer based in East SDA Headquarters, Newbridge on a permanent basis. This is a full-time post working 35 hours per week; applications from individuals seeking to work part time, job share, or flexible working would be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational support, monitoring and maintenance of SFRS Operational Communications services that support core organisational functions.
  • Resolve incidents, fulfil service requests and implement changes via change enablement, in line with ITIL framework principles.
  • Provide technical advice and assistance on any aspect of the SFRS operational comms systems.
  • Implement and support the SFRS Digital and Technology Services operational comms solutions, including mobilising systems, radio, paging station based mobilisation equipment, and 999 telephony systems.
  • Apply communication, analytical, mathematical and problem-solving skills to identify, communicate, and resolve issues to maximise the benefit of operational services investments.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Experience with operational communications systems and ITIL-based change management processes.
  • Ability to mobilise systems such as radio, paging and 999 telephony; capability to provide technical advice on SFRS operational comms.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and adapt to flexible working arrangements as applicable.

Salary and Terms

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review in line with SFRS performance appraisal arrangements. A higher salary placing may be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.
