Solicitor Positions
We are recruiting full‑time Solicitors on both permanent and fixed‑term bases. There are five permanent posts, one fixed‑term post for 1 year, and one fixed‑term post until 12 January 2027.
Responsibilities
- Provide professional legal support to Regulatory colleagues on enforcement options and drafting of documentation.
- Understand complex, technical or scientific information and deliver comprehensive legal advice and guidance to support SEPA in its duties.
- Advise officers on criminal prosecutions, including drafting prosecution reports for submission to the Crown Office & Procurator Fiscal Service and liaising on case progression.
- Provide legal advice on permits, assessing relevant legislation, guidance and procedures to advise officers on permitting requirements and permit conditions.
- Support Legal Senior Managers and Senior Solicitors in defending legal challenges (e.g., statutory appeals) to regulatory decisions.
Qualifications
- Scottish qualified solicitor with current full, unrestricted practising certificate. LLB Degree and Diploma in Legal Practice or equivalent.
- Ideally, at least 2 years of legal professional post‑qualifying experience.
- Knowledge and experience of the application of legislation, ideally environmental legislation.
- Strong problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to build working relationships.
