We are recruiting 3 full‑time Specialist Enforcement Support Officers (Enforcement and Interventions) on a permanent basis across Scotland.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior investigative and enforcement support across SEPA’s regulatory teams, acting as a specialist point of contact for complex, sensitive or contentious cases.
  • Lead or support complex investigations into serious non‑compliance, ensuring evidence and decision‑making meet statutory, procedural and evidential standards.
  • Deliver authoritative investigative and enforcement advice and guidance, interpreting legislation and applying specialist judgement where issues are unclear, novel or high risk.
  • Support the operational delivery of national interventions and contribute specialist regulatory insight to thematic intervention approaches led by the Interventions Specialist.
  • Represent Enforcement and strengthen SEPA’s enforcement practice, contributing to and developing guidance, procedures, training, working groups, cross‑agency work and providing mentoring or oversight to less experienced colleagues.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant qualification or equivalent experience at SCQF Level 8‑10, with comprehensive technical knowledge in a relevant environmental or regulatory specialism.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supporting complex investigations, enforcement and interventions.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, able to explain complex issues in contentious and confrontational environments.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret legislation, technical information and data.
  • Ability to provide authoritative advice and guide others on the resolution of complex issues, and support internal and external working groups.
